Keep Your Cabinets Beautiful With Easy Cabinet Maintenance

How To Keep Your Cabinets Beautiful With Easy Cabinet Maintenance

You have invested in quality cabinets for your home. It just makes sense that you would want to know the best way to take care of your investment. It is important to go through regular cabinet maintenance to keep them looking beautiful and functioning well.

Most cabinets are low-maintenance. Accidents can happen in the kitchen. You should be prepared with the right products and tools to keep your cabinets clean and durable for years to come.

Dust your cabinets regularly

Because of the constant activity in your kitchen, you may think it is a dust-free zone. Your cabinets can collect dust like everything else in your home. To keep your cabinets looking good and in tip-top shape, some regular dusting is in order. By using a lint-free soft cotton cloth, your cabinets will remain shiny and well maintained.

A little more cleaning

There are times when your cabinets need some extra care, and you’ll have to clean them a little more than a quick dusting. A damp soft-cotton cloth is the best tool for cabinet care in this situation. If you do need to do a little scrubbing, all you need a solution of mild dishwashing liquid and warm water. You should wipe down all surfaces with clean damp cloth after you clean them. Take the last step and dry them with another soft-cotton towel.

Waiting will harm your cabinets

It is best if you clean any food spills or cooking splatters from your cabinets immediately. If dark sauces stay on the cabinet finish, they can cause permanent damage. Taking the time to wipe them down with a damp soft cotton cloth until you can clean them more thoroughly will keep them free from discoloration or damage. You’ll also want to wipe up any food, water, grease, oil, or other liquids that may ruin the cabinet finish.

Do not use harsh cleaners

You do not need to use abrasive sponges or powders, harsh detergents, or brushes into your kitchen for cabinet cleaning. Using items like scouring pads, steel wool, abrasive powders, bleach, or ammonia products will permanently damage your beautiful cabinets.  You also want to steer clear of silicone-based waxes and polishing products. These can create a waxy build-up that is hard to remove without damaging your cabinets.

Glass cleaning

You do not need to use ammonia products on glass door fronts. You can spray the glass cleaner on a soft cloth or paper towel and wipe down the glass. You don’t want to spray the glass cleaner directly on the glass due to overspray and leaking, causing damage to the wood of the cabinet door.

Bigger touch-ups

To hide surface damage like scratches, nicks, or dents, you can use a touch-up kit. These pens, putty sticks or crayons hide minor blemishes and deeper indentations. You’ll find the directions for proper use on the packaging. For those bigger touch-up jobs, these kits are the perfect tool.
