After you determine the shape of your kitchen, it’s time to measure. We’ve put together an easy-to-use measurement guide. It will walk you through the steps of measuring your kitchen in preparation for your remodel.
This guide will provide your kitchen designer with the necessary information needed to learn the ins and outs of your current space and determine the best way to bring your dream kitchen to life.
This guide will show you how to measure each step and also provide examples on which to base your drawings.
Your drawing does not have to perfect, but it is important to document accurate measurements as clearly as possible. Using a ruler helps when drawing out your floor plan. You can always start in pencil to erase and go over it in pen when you are finished to ensure it is clear.
You can measure your space on your own, but we recommend asking a friend to help with the measuring process to allow for the most accurate measurements. It is best to measure each item twice for accuracy.
There is a legend to show the symbols for each of the notations. This shows us where everything is in the room with a glance.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR KITCHEN
Your first step will be creating your floor plan on the grid paper provided. You can download your measuring guide here.
Start by drawing out the walls in the kitchen area in the layout that you currently have.
Be sure to notate any door openings, hallways, windows, and any possible obstructions on the walls.
Next, you will want to take note of where plumbing and gas lines are located.
If you are going to be moving any of these items, please let us know where you intend to move them in the drawing as well.
You will also need to notate which way the doors swing open for each door in the room.
Now that you have a general layout. You can measure! Always remember to measure in inches, as you will see in the example below.
You will first want to measure from corner to corner first to get a full length of the wall and write that on your drawing.
Once you have the length of the full wall, measure the width of each window and door opening from edge to edge and notate on your drawing.
Next, you will measure from the corner of the wall to each item on the wall, such as a window frame. Make sure these numbers add up to match the full width of the wall that you took originally to ensure accuracy in these measurements.
In the image below, we added the outside measurements of the distance from the window and door frames to the corner of the room.
Finally, measure your ceiling height from the floor to the corner of where the walls and ceiling meet.
That’s it! You’re done. You are now ready to send us your measurements!
